Item Scans

Colour reproduction of scanned stamps is always a problem on computers due to the scanning process, image processing and computer monitor colour handling.

To attempt a best effort represention of colours for the site items are scanned with all scanner colour correction turned off. Testing against representative selection of monitors this appeared to give the closest match to the real-life stamp shades.

However this is a fairly recent change and previously items were scanned using colour correction.

Until all items have been rescanned there are two distinct "groups" of colours of items on the site - "bolder and whiter scans" and the more true colour reproduction from the "paler and greyer scans". Although the non-colour corrected settings better reflect the true stamp colours, they are less visually appealing.

In areas where the shades are most relevant most of the older items have been rescanned, but in some country areas there are still similar stamps with quite noticeable shade differences. In most instances these differences do not represent actually differences in the real-life shades on the stamps.
